Miniature Paintings

Small Format Art using Golden Acrylics

Yesterday I finished working on some tiny canvas paintings. I’ve painted in miniature format for many years, and it’s always fun to return to the 2 to 3 inch zone to brush up on some editing skills. You just can’t fit it all in; a minimal approach becomes necessary.

Small brushes are great to use for painting this small, but the corner of larger brushes can also work and help facilitate a less fussy technique.

These small works shown here are acrylics on stretched canvas with painted sides, and I’ve just added them to my Etsy shop.

Abstract painting in the Hobonichi

Hobonichi planner books and paint…

Nothing makes me happier than good, strong well-behaved paper. And for a mix of journaling art styles, which include calligraphy ink work occasionally, I find the Hobonichi can really take a lot of my abuse.

Several layers of acrylic paint? No problem for my Techo.

Time lapse painting

Valentine’s Day Tulips

Creativity in time lapse speed. Here’s a video I forgot to post where I was painting my Valentine’s Day tulips with acrylic paints on canvas paper.

Friday in my art studio

Painting and staying warm

I know that I have nothing to really complain about when it comes to cold weather, but seriously, this cold snap in the south is getting old. The little space heater in my Florida home art studio is helping me cope. I just keep thinking about our brutal summer temps and 5K training in the heat last year, and I think I’d rather be sweating than freezing. Yes, I’ll take the heat. I’m no longer a New York winter girl. Waiting for the warm up–come on Florida!

Here are some photos of the things happening in the studio this week! I’ve finished submitting my paintings for a competition (more about that later), and I’ve started some small works (5×5 inch) mixed media studies on canvas paper. It’s so much fun to work in the square format–and working small allows me try new things and experiment for larger pieces.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
